radio program broadcasts from the “José T. Borda” psychiatric clinic in Argentina’s capital city. RADIO LA COLIFATA began airing in August 1991 and continues to broadcast five hours a week from the clinic. Numerous Argentinian radio stations carry parts of the program on their shows. –

Radio as Therapy

The word “Colifata” is taken from the Lunfardo slang spoken in Buenos Aires. The brainchild of psychologist Alfredo Oliveira, RADIO LA COLIFATA reaches an audience of millions and many musicians and actors are vocal supporters of the program. The “Radio as Therapy” concept has been copied in Europe and is similarly successful there. It helps breaks through the walls of silence surrounding the institutionalized, showing us the normalcy of insanity as well as the insanity of “normals”. Carlos Larrondo has been filming this project for ten years.
